Energy management system certification is a procedure for confirmation of a degree of the Organization’s management system conformity to requirements of ISO 50001:2018.

Energy management system-EnMS certification is performed by independent competent auditors and experts of ACS, who have the necessary experience and training in the scope of conducting audits for compliance with the requirements of audited standards, as well as competence in the field of activity of an organization being audited.

In case of successful completion of the certification procedure, a client receives a Certificate of Conformity, an official document, confirming that the organization’s energy management system meets the requirements provided by the standard.


In recent decades, businesses have prioritized cost-cutting measures. Energy, which began to be a significant expenditure in company, has now become a critical factor. Since energy has always been a resource required for production, it has come to be regarded as one of the primary cost sources requiring considerable consideration. Developing the notion of energy management views energy management like any other industrial resource management to minimize corporate costs through energy efficiency improvement.

Emphasizing the importance of energy as a resource, needing the same management as every costly resource, rather than as an enterprise's overhead expenditures, is a critical first step toward improving energy efficiency and lowering energy costs.

This is how a diverse set of standards was produced in many nations, each of which reflected national features while generalizing the expertise and practice of numerous industrial and nonindustrial groups. The first is British standard BS 8207:1985, Code of practice for energy efficiency in buildings, which was released in 1985 and is still in use today with minor changes added in 1994. The standards ANSI/MSE 2000:2005 Management System for Energy and ANSI/IEEE 739:1995 Recommended Practice for Energy Management in Industrial and Commercial Facilities were produced by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The first standard, Danish standard DS 2403:2001, provided enterprises with a proper energy management implementation guide.

EN 16001:2009, a European standard, was released in 2009 and has since been given national status in 17 European countries. In 2008, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) began work on a new international standard, ISO 50001 (Energy management systems – Requirements with Application Guidance). A new ISO/TC 242 technical committee "Energy management" was formed for this purpose. ISO 50001:2018 is the most recent revision of EnMS.

ISO 50001 implementation is available for all enterprises, regardless of size or line of business; it may be implemented in the company individually or in conjunction with other management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, and so on. The standard is built on generic features included in all ISO management system standards, allowing for a high level of interface with other management systems.

The standard's focus is on providing structured and general direction to businesses on improving the process of energy resource consumption and management system.

ISO 50001 was created to provide businesses with a widely recognised framework for incorporating energy-saving strategies into their management procedures. Organizations all across the globe, including Canadian ones, have gained access to a widely acknowledged norm for implementing it into all scopes of activity based on a consistent and sustainable process for determining and implementing changes. The standard is intended to accomplish the following goals:
  1. Help organizations more fully utilize their current energy-consuming assets;
  2. Create transparency and promote communication regarding energy resources management;
  3. Promote energy management best practices and consolidate applicable energy management practices;
  4. Sustain assessment potential and prioritizing implementation of new energy-efficient technologies;
  5. Provide improvement scheme for energy conservation throughout the supply chain;
  6. Promote energy management improvement in support of projects on reduction in greenhouse gas emission;
